Founded in 2021 by then-14 year old Mischa Abad, Uplifting Deliveries is a volunteer organization that aims to connect senior citizens in memory care facilities with their community. To combat the effects of social isolation, we have collected and distributed over 16,000 handmade cards and deliveries to senior citizen living centers, hospices, and meal assistance programs for homebound families. Social isolation and loneliness have been shown to have detrimental effects on cognitive function, which can lead to symptoms of pseudodementia and worsen the progression of dementia. Our efforts slow the progression of these health effects and help residents improve their skills to live life as independently as possible.

Mischa abad
For years, our founder, Mischa Abad, volunteered at senior living centers, seeing up close how memory loss and the COVID-19 pandemic affected the residents. The pandemic hit hard, bringing strict visitation rules and a gloomy atmosphere. One day, after a volunteer shift, she noticed a lonely blue bench outside a resident’s window, a stark reminder of the isolation within the community. Determined to make a difference, Mischa decided to tackle the problem of social isolation among seniors. She started the volunteer organization, Uplifting Deliveries, aimed at building connections and creating activities that help to slow the progression of dementia-related diseases. Social activities have been proven to slow the progression of pseudodementia and dementia-related diseases, so developing these activities and interconnection for this vulnerable community is incredibly important.

Now, Uplifting Deliveries has expanded, not only creating an impact on the older generation, but also encouraging young students to get involved and make a difference in the lives of their community. We focus on explaining how they can lead their own community project and interact with vulnerable communities despite their age. Although they may be little, they can do BIG things. Seniors love positive interactions with the younger generation and this bonding experience explains what Uplifting Deliveries truly set out to do.
With an extensive background in serving the community in roles at Sunrise Hospital, Spread the Word Nevada, and various assisted living centers/hospices, Mischa is fueled by a deep commitment to volunteering. Her favorite moments from her service over recent years include learning how to dance "the twist" from residents at Silverado Red Rock Memory Care Center, and making mango ice cream with seniors during a cooking event at Prestige Living at Mira Loma. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to combine her love of volunteering with her hobbies of crafting and design.
